We're proud to announce that we have surpassed our fundraising goal of $75,000 and raised $111,129.55, thanks to supporters of our team of runners at the 42nd Marine Corps Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, October 22, 2017, in Arlington, VA.
InterVol is fielding a team of 54 runners in the nation’s fourth largest marathon. All runners who signed up to participate with Team InterVol pledged to raise at least $750 to support InterVol’s mission to improve the health of those around the world by recovering and distributing medical supplies and providing medical services to those who need it the most.
Dan Palmier, Founder and CEO of UC Funds and The Palmier Foundation, and a longtime supporter of InterVol, pledged to go above and beyond and raised $1,000 for each mile of the race — $26,200 in total. With additional funds from Bob Morgan, Managing Member and CEO of Morgan Management, and Sal Leccese, CEO of LeCesse Development, The Palmier Foundation will present a check for $70,100 at 11:30 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, VA.
With The Palmier Foundation’s generous donation, InterVol will expand two main programs: Recovery of Unused Medical Supplies (RUMS) and Volunteer Medical Professionals (VMP). These two programs work in tandem as facets of improving healthcare in developing, disaster-stricken, and war-torn communities.
The RUMS and VMP programs are particularly needed when natural disasters strike, such as the recent spate of hurricanes that have devastated the infrastructure of many Caribbean islands, such as Puerto Rico. Since September 1, 2017, the RUMS program has shipped over 46,000 lbs. of medical supplies, water, diapers, and other toiletries valued at over 1 million dollars to the Caribbean and parts of the southern United States for hurricane recovery.
